Umrah, especially during Ramadan, traditionally draws millions of Muslims from across the globe. Reports indicate that more than 122 million worshippers visited Saudi Arabia during the 2025 Ramadan season. However, escalating regional tensions and partial airspace closures in key transit hubs such as Doha and Dubai have disrupted flight schedules, leaving many intending Nigerian pilgrims stranded or reconsidering their plans.

Following military exchanges in the region, several countries including Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates announced partial airspace closures. The development forced major international airlines to suspend or cancel flights to affected destinations.

Carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Air France, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, EgyptAir, Lufthansa and Ethiopian Airlines have adjusted operations, significantly affecting passengers who rely on connecting flights through Gulf hubs.
