Atiku's Son Resigns As Adamawa Commissioner

Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.

The resignation comes shortly after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with most of his cabinet.

In a formal letter dated March 2, 2026, addressed to Governor Fintiri, Adamu tendered his resignation with immediate effect. He described his tenure as a “rare honour and privilege,” expressing deep gratitude for the trust and support he received from the governor, which enabled him to contribute to the state’s infrastructural and energy development.

Adamu highlighted his appreciation to the people of Adamawa State, particularly those from Jada, for their prayers and backing during his service. He also thanked his parents, Atiku Abubakar and Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar, for their guidance and blessings.

Notably, Adamu was absent during the governor’s defection announcement, where Fintiri was joined by 22 commissioners who also switched to the APC. Adamu was among the few who did not follow suit.

In a Facebook post announcing the move, Adamu reflected on his seven years of service, describing it as one of the most significant honours in his public life. He reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to Adamawa State’s progress, stating that this step marks “a new phase of broader developmental engagement” while remaining loyal to the state’s unity and advancement.

The resignation underscores the political shifts in Adamawa State following the governor’s high-profile defection earlier in late February 2026.
