Onilogbo Enumerates Challenges, Achievements As Birthday/Coronation Anniversary Draw Near


Onilogbo of Ashowo, His Royal Highness, Oba Samuel Ojugbele has declared that preparations are in top gear for the commemoration of the Monarch's 83rd Birthday and 25th Coronation Anniversary.

This was made known to the newsmen during the press conference that was held at the Ilogbo palace of the revered Awori monarch on Saturday, 17 January, 2026.

According to the monarch, his 83rd birthday ceremony slated for April 27, 2026 will be celebrated together with the 60th rememberance service for his late father.

Oba Ojugbele further stated that his 25th Coronation Anniversary celebration, scheduled for October 20, 2026, will feature the Conferment of Chieftaincy Titles and Presentation of  Awards to Individuals, Scholars, Religious Leaders and Corporate Organizations that have Positively Impacted on the life of the Monarch and contributed to the development of Ilogbo Community.

Reminiscing the challenges and achievements of the Monarch in the last 25 years of his reign on the throne of his fore-fathers.

The monarch stated he initially had serious opposition from critics, culminated in legal tussle and threat to his life. But to the glory of God, he was able to surmount all of the challenges through patience and doggedness.

Onilogbo reveals that Ilogbo extends to Owode Ijako and Alade-Ilogbo when he became the king. But the domain now has five Obas: Oba Onitetiku, Oba Onitigbo, Oba Alade, Oba Oloke-Osa and Oba Onijemo within the territory. This makes the workload reduced and His Majesty now enjoys relative calm.

His Royal Highness further stated, "My major achievement is enlightening the people to know the value of education. I thank God that we have succeeded in enlighten the people to know that education is important. "So everybody now wants to get their children educated.  

Physical Development 

"The physical developments are there. When i came in, an acre of land was being sold for forty-eight thousand naira (N48,000). But a plot of land is now selling between four and five million naira. You can see the whole place is built up. These are physical development. But the real thing that gladdens my heart is the development of the people."

"When i became the Onilogbo, i had a vision of the Ilogbo that i want. I don't want a Ilogbo with industries, where there will be environmental problems in future. I want a commercial Ilogbo. We have industries at Ota, let them be there. Let Commerce come to Ilogbo. We have Banks, Insurance and  Merchants. 

"No Indusries because of Industrial Pollution. And i thank God we have achieved that. Even if you bring your industry now, there is no land to sell here. But there is a place for Trade and Commerce."

In The Aspect Of Enlightenment And Awareness Programmes On Education

"When i came in, the only Primary School that was here had about 40 something children in their enrollment, less than one hundred pupils. I started with encouraging them to go to school. I requested then that the Secondary School here that was closed 25 years before i ascend the throne be opened and it was reopened. I contacted Missions in the Area Of Education, that is why we have Catholic (Boarding) Secondary School. One of the best in this locality. We also have Anglican Grammar School, at Ilugba. These are the products of my efforts then. 

"But as at today, there are so many Secondary Schools around. I even went to the extent of having evening Adult Education Class when i came in. 

"Ilogbo- Iwoye Road Construction Project that was done by Shell Gas was facilitated by me. 

"I was approached by Shell to mention whatever I want from them as my 80th birthday gift when I clocked 80, three years ago. And Oju-Ore junction - Iwoye Road Construction is the response to my 80th Birthday Gift Request. Blocks Of Secondary School Classrooms were also built by same Shell to mark my 70th birthday some years back."

On Onilogbo's relationship with the Traditional Rulers of Egbaland, especially Alake of Egba.

"My relationship with Alake of Egbaland is very cordial, he respects me and i also respect him. He is a very good administrator. And i respect him for that."

The monarch revealed that long-serving palace staffers will also be honoured, with special recognition Awards. The likes of 'Oba n ki o' Taliat Adegboyega, who has served the palace meritoriously for 25 years.

The palace secretary, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akofiranmi, in her remarks praised the monarch’s compassionate leadership and commitment to staff welfare. She disclosed that Oba Ojugbele personally sponsored the education of her two children  from Elemetary Class through Higher Institutions level, noting that similar kind gestures have been extended to other palace staff.
