National Chairman’s Office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally acknowledged the petition and concerns raised by the Ota Awori Youth Movement over the zoning of the House of Representatives seat in the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. The acknowledgement, dated 15 January 2026, represents a notable step toward addressing issues of representation and political balance within the constituency.
The Ota Awori Youth Movement, a coalition comprising statutory traditional and non-traditional youth councils across Ota, had called on the party leadership to ensure that the House of Representatives seat is zoned to the Ota State Constituency in 2027. The group cited over 20 years of perceived marginalisation and imbalance in federal legislative representation as the basis for its demand.
According to the coalition, the House of Representatives seat and the local government chairmanship remain the two highest and only permanent political offices within the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency. They noted that there exists a long-standing, though unwritten, understanding that both offices should rotate between the Ota State Constituency and the Ado/Igbesa State Constituency in the interest of fairness, unity, and political inclusion.
The group further stressed that the Ado/Igbesa constituency has occupied the federal legislative seat for approximately two decades, a development they described as inconsistent with the principles of equity and balanced representation. They argued that zoning the seat to Ota in 2027 would restore confidence, promote harmony, and strengthen democratic participation within the constituency.
Political observers monitoring the zoning debate have maintained that the agitation by Ota stakeholders is not driven by minority sentiment. Rather, they point to objective political indicators showing that the Ota State Constituency accounts for the largest population, highest number of registered voters, and the most robust economic activities within the local government area, positioning it as a critical pillar of the federal constituency.
Analysts believe the acknowledgement by the APC National Chairman’s Office signals the party’s readiness to engage relevant stakeholders in pursuit of a fair, inclusive, and consensus-driven resolution. Such an approach, they note, aligns with the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusivity, and majority interest, while also enhancing the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
As the APC intensifies preparations for the next general elections, expectations remain high that the party’s leadership will carefully manage the zoning question in Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency to ensure unity, electoral strength, and sustainable political stability.
